How Londoners can grow their own restaurants

Last summer, the British Hospitality Association introduced a campaign to help get people back into London’s shops, restaurants and theatres, which they urged Boris Johnson to support.

The Olympics perhaps did not provide the much needed boost for independent restaurants across London. In fact, so disappointing were the results of the impact of the games that many restaurant owners lashed out against Jeremy Hunt, who had claimed that the events of 2012 would be fantastic for independent enterprises. Indeed, Richard Bradford, owner of Porters English Restaurant and Covent Garden Grill, said that business was “even worse than we imagined” and described the then culture secretary as an “idiot.”

However, since the dry spell, things seem to be picking up for London’s restaurants. London’s eateries enjoyed a welcome sales increase in February because of the February half term, and the Easter holidays will almost certainly have helped custom in London’s restaurants.

A recently published book could be the answer to all restaurant owners’ worries. “Recipe For Disaster” was written by a restaurant marketing expert and a successful restaurateur. It has been promoted as the “restaurant owner’s essential guide to growing an independent restaurant,” and it contains insights into starting up and maintaining a successful restaurant business. For example, it reveals 12 key growth and marketing areas including using the latest marketing techniques, making customers more loyal and how to sell your restaurant for maximum value.

The book was launched by Restaurant Growth UK as an initiative to help independent restaurant owners achieve the level of success that they desire.
